Your Body Hurts But the Answers Keep Falling Short.

We specialize in complex, mind-body conditions offering clarity when standard care leaves you stuck. If you’re living with unexplained physical symptoms like chronic pain, fatigue, digestive issues, numbness, or other discomforts and being told it’s “just stress,” you’re not imagining things. You may be living with a somatoform disorder. And help is at hand.

Somatic Symptoms Deserve Serious Care

Somatoform disorders (also called Somatic Symptom Disorders) are real medical conditions where emotional distress shows up as physical symptoms. These are not “faked” symptoms, but they are experienced in the body and can be just as disruptive and painful as conditions with a clear medical cause.

At Kalamazoo TMS & Behavioral Health, we don’t dismiss your symptoms. We help you understand them and treat both the physical and emotional layers together.

What We Offer

At Kalamazoo TMS & Behavioral Health, we understand that your pain is real even if tests don’t provide clear answers. Our approach brings you medical insight with psychiatric care to treat the whole person, not just the symptoms.

We begin with a thorough psychiatric evaluation to understand your full medical and psychological picture.

We collaborate with your primary care or specialists if needed for a more complete understanding.

Treatment may include therapy, medication, or both, based on your symptoms and goals.

We offer compassionate support for chronic pain, fatigue, or unexplained symptoms.

When appropriate, we explore deeper emotional or trauma-related factors behind physical issues.

Progress is tracked closely to adjust care and support long-term healing.

Somatoform disorders, also called somatic symptom disorders, happen when emotional distress shows up as physical symptoms. You might feel pain, fatigue, stomach issues, or strange sensations, but medical tests keep coming back normal. It doesn’t mean the symptoms aren’t real, they are. It just means the cause is more connected to your mental and emotional health than something a blood test or scan can catch.

Not at all. The pain, discomfort, or fatigue you’re feeling is real. What we are saying is that your body and brain are deeply connected. Stress, trauma, or anxiety can trigger physical responses that feel just like a medical condition. Our job is to treat both the symptoms you feel and the emotional root underneath.

We use a whole-person approach. That starts with a detailed evaluation where we look at your medical history, stress levels, and symptom patterns. Treatment may include:

  • Psychotherapy, especially cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), to manage stress or health-related anxiety
  • Medication to ease mood or anxiety symptoms (if needed)
  • Mind-body strategies like relaxation, sleep support, or gentle lifestyle changes
  • Collaboration with your primary care doctor or specialists

Our goal is to help you feel better physically and emotionally not just mask the symptoms.

That’s very common. Many people with somatoform disorders have gone through multiple tests, referrals, and even treatments with no relief. If you’ve heard “we can’t find anything wrong” more times than you can count, you’re not alone. We take your full journey into account and offer a fresh perspective that includes the emotional and neurological pieces often overlooked.

Yes, healing is absolutely possible. It takes time and the right approach, but many patients see major improvements in their symptoms once they start addressing the emotional side of their experience. With the right care, you can regain control over your body, reduce the symptoms, and feel like yourself again.
